Now i’m not talking about heart eyes emoji’s on your best friends picture, but talking to people online is one of the best ways to meet new and interesting people, think of it as the modern day Networking.
Your ability to network online is fundamental to your career development. Below I have outlined some of the best ways to network with like minded people and to establish working relationships or infact, any relationship.
I have already written a few articles on the fear of standing out online and this is no exception, it seems that people like to consume social media rather than create their own. which, if you are a creator is fantastic news.
Imagine being anywhere is the world and being able to network with people in your area, or in the industry you want to get into. LinkedIn has changed networking for the better, you are able to instantly message and speak to professional colleagues from a range of different services. simply dropping someone a message and asking whether this is any business to be conducted or to catch them for a coffee is incredibly powerful. Plus the majority of users are more than happy to help or give their time!
Twitter is like tapping into the internet itself, you click on a hashtag and boom everyone is talking about the same point but from different points of view. If your interests are in politics, business or at a conference, twitter is a fantastic way to follow, message or interact with like minded people that share the same interests as you.
Instagram is slightly different but is still very useful in the context of building meaningful relationships. I personally follow a lot of interesting authors, gym athletes or anyone else that I find interesting. Being able to speak to or ask questions or interact with anyone you choose you can really engage with anyone you choose too!
Key Take Away
I think we can easily get so bogged down in not taking action or even forgetting how powerful the device in our hands is, you can pretty much reach nearly anyone in minutes. If you truly want to network, add value to that person, make it relevant and as Steve Jobs once said, Just Ask. You never know where it will take you.
